The Wooden Boat
In the coastal village of Seabreeze, where the salty air carried the cries of seagulls and the waves crashed against the rocky shore, there lived a boy named Max. Max loved the ocean. He spent hours watching the boats sail in and out of the harbour, their sails billowing in the wind. But what Max loved even more than watching boats was building them.
Max’s father was a carpenter, and he had taught Max how to work with wood from a young age. Max’s room was filled with tiny wooden boats, each one carefully carved and painted. He loved the smell of sawdust and the feel of smooth wood beneath his fingers.
One day, Max decided to make a special boat for his best friend, Lily. Lily loved sailing almost as much as Max loved building boats. She often talked about the adventures she would have if she had her own boat. Max wanted to make her dream come true, even if it was just in a small way.
He chose a piece of cedar wood, its grain smooth and straight, and began carving. He shaped the hull carefully, sanding it until it was as smooth as glass. He painted the boat a bright blue, with white sails and a tiny red flag at the top. When the boat was finished, Max wrapped it in a piece of soft cloth and brought it to Lily’s house.
Lily’s eyes widened when she saw the boat. “Max, it’s beautiful!” she exclaimed, holding it gently. “It looks just like a real sailboat.”
Max grinned. “I made it for you,” he said. “I thought you could take it on adventures.”
Lily’s face lit up with excitement. “Let’s take it to the harbour and see if it floats!”
They ran to the harbour, their laughter echoing through the narrow streets. When they reached the water’s edge, Lily carefully placed the boat in the water. It bobbed gently on the waves, its sails catching the breeze.
“It’s perfect,” Lily said, her eyes shining. “Thank you, Max.”
As they watched the boat sail across the harbour, Max felt a warmth in his heart. He realised that giving a gift could lead to wonderful adventures and bring people closer together. The wooden boat wasn’t just a toy—it was a symbol of their friendship.
